India started their journey for the world cup 2011. They started it in a dashing way with Sehwah hitting a boundry on the very first ball and then levelling Kapil Dev's world cup record of 175 runs. The 32 year old bolstered his reputation with a flamboyant 175 off his 140 balls innings which included 14 hits to the fence and 5 huge over it. For a short while it looked like he is going to break atleast Kirsten's record knock (if not Tendulkar's 200) of 188 which is the highest score in any world cup match.
Coincidently Kirsten is currently the coach of Indian cricket team. Tendulkar was unfortunate for that mis
communication but the way he started the innings is a very good sign for India. Virat Kohli again rose to the occassion and proved Dhoni made a right choice. He scored an impressive 100 not out, a 83 ball knock including 8 4s and 2 sixes.
To their credit, Bangladesh started off well and kept the match interesting for quite a long. Indian bowling
department failed to build enough pressure on their top order which is definitely not a good sign for the rest of
the tournament. Can we win the world cup with this mediocore bowling? Tamim Iqbal (70) and Imrul Kayes (34) started on an aggressive note. Junaid Siddiqui (37) added to
another good partnership. The last man to keep the innings live was the captain, Shakib (54) after which
Bangaladesh could not put up a fight.

I always want my kid to eat all the india vegetables especially the Gourds such as Bottle Gourd (Doodhi, Ghia), Bitter Gourd (Karela), Snake Gourd (Chichinda) and Ribbed Gourd(Tori, Gonsali, Ghisoda). Not many know about the medicinal values of these gourds although they form a familiar dish across indian family dinner tables. It is difficult to prepare any vegetable to suit little one's taste buds especially if the child is accustomed to western life style. However, I never give up to prepare the vegetable in a child-pleasing way, one such dish is a plain Ribbed Gourd fry.

I used to admire Google a lot. It's not that I've stopped admiring them now but yeah, that admiration has definitely come down a couple of notches in last one year. When Google joined the websapce, it transformed the way people do business on internet. Targeted advertising without irritating the users was a brilliant idea. The Google Ad-sense was a novel idea and it continues to be a major contributor to Google's revenues. However, it seems Google is going a bit overboard with the advertising now. And I'm not even talking about the privacy issue, which is a big debate in itself, I'm simply talking about the user experience here.

India is waking up with pride. It is a giant leap towards a greater womankind. The long awaited women's reservation bill is finally on its way. The bill which was originally introduced in 1996 took 14 years to ratify by Rajya Sabha. The Rajya Sabha has voted 186 in favour of the bill. The bill seeks to reserve one third of the seats of the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for 15 years on a rotational basis. The Bill, formally known as the 108th constitutional amendment, must now be passed by the Lok Sabha and ratified by at least half the States before coming in to actual effect.
However, getting the bill approved in Lok Sabha is going to be a tougher challenge. Almost all political parties agree that this task would be far more difficult than it was in the Rajya Sabha. For, the three Yadav leaders - Mulayam Singh, Lalu Prasad and Sharad Yadav opposed the legislation stongly. The Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Left parties, United Progressive Alliance partners (minus the Trinamool Congress which abstained in the Rajya Sabha), the Biju Janata Dal, the Akalis, the Shiv Sena, the Telugu Desam Party and other smaller groups between them have more than the two-thirds majority required to see the Bill through comfortably.

While TCS is plannig to hire 30,000 employees, Wipro is adding a 7,500 to its head count in next two quarters. TCS employs 130,000 employees and is the biggest employer. TCS has already made 14,000 offers to new recruits and are expected to make the remaining soon. Companies have lifted the freeze on hiring and pay hikes although many companies still clutch on to the frozen salary hikes. Wipro employeers were paid salary hikes in the region of 8 to 15%. TCS did not give its employees any hikes while Infosys gave a single-digit imcrement last October.

It might make a tiny bit of sense if you just had to rely on your car to make the trip, but making an additional 2 hour train journey amidst all the travel chaos is plain stupid. However, what fun is it if you don't test the limits of stupidity :). Five of us decided to do just that this Saturday, and boy that was fun!
